About Us Welcome to lfjThe Lupus Foundation of Jamaica is a member-sponsored, volunteer-run, Organisation in operation since 1984, dedicated to improve the lives and outcomes of persons affected by lupus through information, education, advocacy and support. |
To improve the lives and outcomes of persons affected by lupus through education, advocacy, and support by providing access to information, medical assistance, professional counseling, and community engagement while working with policymakers and stakeholders to enhance lupus awareness and care in Jamaica.
A future where all persons affected by lupus in Jamaica receive timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and the necessary support to achieve optimal health and live fulfilling, productive lives.
Jamaica has one of the highest rates of lupus worldwide, affecting thousands of individuals. The disease is serious, lifelong, and in some cases, life-threatening. Many struggle with late diagnosis, high treatment costs, and lack of awareness.
Support contacts through our Learning Centre, providing persons and their families with information about lupus, help in finding treatment centres, and connection with a support community.
A future where all persons affected by lupus in Jamaica receive timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and the necessary support to achieve optimal health and live fulfilling, productive lives. Literature through hospitals and clinics, outreach events, and public awareness campaigns via live and print media, interactive websites, social media platforms, medical symposiums, and public lectures to educate health professionals in the recognition and treatment of lupus.
We were able to work with policymakers and government bodies such as the National Health Fund to provide substantial subsidies for costly medications for all lupus patients. We also secured and facilitated donations of key diagnostic equipment that will help save lives.
Our work is entirely funded through donations and fundraising. Due to COVID-19, our funding has been impacted. We aim to raise 4 million dollars to continue our mission.
